A Little Consideration Goes Far
I was at an event recently, where I noticed something that bugged me. The people who had once led the organization that was putting the event on — the ones who had put in the hours, carried the responsibility and helped to build the thing — weren’t acknowledged at all. A friend asked me, “Why does that matter to you? Is it a value thing?” Good question.
Inspired by that experience, I tried to imagine a world that didn’t care about or acknowledge our history. It got me thinking about gratitude. How easy it is to complain about the past while forgetting that we are quite literally standing on it. There are people who went before us, fought for things, built things, taught us things, loved us, screwed up, tried again… and because of them, here we are.
So, maybe it’s worth asking: whose shoulders are you standing on?
