Leave Your Feelings at the Door

“How are you feeling?”
“Fine.”
"Well, that clears things up!"
Sometimes we don’t consciously have a clue what we are feeling. Our bodies are giving us hints, though. A tight chest, a knot in the gut, shoulders up around our ears — these signals all tell us something. Are we listening? We are often so quick to 'push through' and 'get on with things' that we miss what is going on inside of us.
Then, there’s the idea that we should 'leave our feelings at the door' before we engage with the rest of the world. As if our feelings will just sit and wait for us! It doesn't really make sense, does it?
Emotional intelligence is getting some well-deserved attention in our modern world. There is power in it. Being able to recognize what we are feeling and then communicate about it, helps us to make clearer choices, to work together more cohesively, and to build stronger relationships. This is good on many levels of our lives, from efficiency at work, to really being 'seen' by friends and co-workers and deepening our relationships with our loved ones. All of this leads to a more empowered future for everyone.
So, how are you feeling? Join me in this week's vlog, and let’s give that question a little more room.
