Allowing the Flow of Life

As I write - tap ,tap ,tap - a flow of ideas moves through me. The ideas that come to me are not 'mine'. No, the experience I have is more like surrendering to the moment I am in and allowing Inspiration to guide my fingers. Yes, I am inspired. I am moved by ideas, by thoughts, by a desire to share and to offer opportunities for an elevated experience - to invite myself and my readers to consider 'A New Idea'. When we change the way we think, our lives adjust to reflect that transformation. So please, understand: the words I share here are not mine. I am simply a channel through which they express. I am giving space for the creative flow of 'what wants to be written' to live through me.
Recently, I was revelling in the idea of an uplifted life. I have been on a journey of self-improvement (hand-in-hand with self awareness) for almost 30 years. What has changed for me during that time? I laugh at that question. It has not been the daily details of my life that have shifted as I have embraced this lifestyle, so much as it has been my inner landscape. The way of life I have adopted is guided through accessing the wisdom of something profound and deep within myself - 'a bigger idea' . However, though it has brought so much Good to me, this work can be a hard sell, as there isn’t necessarily a corresponding material gain associated with it. One may still wind up driving the same car, living in the same house, and having relationship or health ups and downs, even when they are following this path. What does change, though, is one's daily level of true happiness, contentment and peace. It may seem subtle to skeptics, but it is powerful.

As an ongoing practice, I aspire to reading some form of spiritual literature every day. Lately, I have been drawn to Return to the One: Plotinus’s Guide to God-Realization. A Modern Exposition of an Ancient Classic, the Enneads. In that book, the author, Brian Hines, explains how we are mesmerized by the things we create. He writes, “When we are motivated by anything outside ourselves, we are reacting to that thing. It is in control of us.”
My son, Karlyle, and I wound up discussing this concept with regard to some decisions he needed to make in his home. Karlye and his wife have collected and built many adult Lego sets, including a model of The Titanic and a Lego AT-AT. Impressive! Challenging too, in that their moderate townhouse is now needing more space for their 7-month-old son, who will soon be crawling, walking and climbing. They have run out of space for their collection! Yet, when I asked Karlye if he is ready to sell any of his models, I met with some resistance. This eased somewhat when I explained that the creative enjoyment they experienced from building their intricate brick masterpieces is complete. We then discussed how the resistance to letting go, as well as the need to find space, were both self created experiences, and that this creation now had power over him.
When we get caught up with our creations, outwardly focused on holding on to them, we wind up blocking the flow and space for something new to move through us. The inner tap that unleashes the infinite wonders of Life for us is available to turn on at all times. Still, we can tend to become addicted to the outer world of what we already know. In doing so, we wind up turning our backs on the ultimate splendours awaiting us - the Good we have yet to experience.

In another instance with my family, we were hooking my phone to my daughter-in-law’s car when the words “High Watch Pro” popped up on the Bluetooth screen. Karlyle was confused, “Is that the brand of your phone?” he asked. "No", I laughed. “Remember how I was telling you about letting the flow of our Higher Life into our everyday lives? Remember that I was suggesting we could turn away from the distractions of social media and news to get 'a bigger idea' - that we could look out to the Universe, expand our visions, and let the creativity and aliveness that is available to us all the time be the daily experience? Ya, that is 'Keeping the High Watch'. I named my phone as a reminder.”
Today, there is so much talk of war, political unrest and divided ideologies that are all moving people into a low grade state of constant anxiety. I want to remind you that war is never a solution. Such conflict is merely people fighting over a material world - and that material world is made up only of finite, temporal objects. None of that compares to the true wonders and power of The Universe. In the present moment there is far more chutzpah available to us than we tend to realize. Tapping into the expansive Truth of each moment is where access to magic begins.
Instead of focusing on war and separation, if we will all put our time and energy into aligning with the Flow that wants to move through us, into giving space to the wonders all around us, into looking up, and into holding to a vision of the biggest concept of Life we can imagine, we will shift worldly affairs in an entirely new direction.
Let's do it! I believe in us!
